Intro to Flight: UAV Hands-on Training
Learning the particulars of legally flying a UAV can be confusing and intimidating. Our expert can guide you through the rules and regulations governing the use of UAVs and provide hands-on experience flying one of our DJI platform UAVs. Our ten (10) hour course offers a combination of classroom training and hands-on flight sessions featuring the following:
  • - 3 Indoor flight sessions
  • - 10 Hours of in-person training
  • - Use of our UAV
  • - Access to our FAA Certified Remote Pilot
  • - Class limited to 12 students

Course Objectives

  • - Begin to learn about the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations governing UAVs
  • - Gain confidence with hands-on operation of a UAV
  • - Be able to make an informed buying decision about which UAV is right for you

Course Outline

  • - Classroom and hands-on training by a FAA Certified Remote Pilot
  • - Introduction to Part 107 FAA rules and regulations
  • - UAV models, equipment, and software; from hobby to specialty UAVs
  • - What to consider before you purchase your UAV
  • - UAV safety guidelines and flight checklist
  • - Step-by-step, how to register your UAV
  • - Learn the basics of UAV flight and get hands-on with different types of UAVs
  • - Understand the parts of the UAV and what they do
  • - Learn about the various features and settings of UAVs
  • - Get comfortable hovering in mid-air and gently landing the UAV
  • - Take off and land safely
  • - Get comfortable flying the UAV left/right and forwards/backwards
  • - Learn how to fly the UAV in a pattern
  • - Learn how the UAV functions during continuous flight

Participants should be at least 16 years old.

Class will be held in the library/learning commons and the gym at Lake Region State College.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation more than 5 days prior to start of training results in a 25% cancellation fee based on the class fee. Cancellation 5 days or less to the start of training results in no refund.
